What we believe

Our Statement of Faith.

“God did not send his Son into thE world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.” - John 3:17

What We Believe

At Hope for Today, we care about a relationship with Jesus Christ. No matter our collective stories we have found faith, hope, and love in Jesus, and desire our community to experience that same love and hope.  Making their home with Jesus.

Hope for Today is an Evangelical Pentecostal church that stands firmly in the mainstream of historical Christianity. We affirm the importance of teaching the whole counsel of God's Word the Bible. We use the Bible as the only source for our faith and practice. It affirms the belief in Christ as Saviour and soon coming King. It also affirms that the sacrifice of Jesus in totality was necessary and sufficient for the forgiveness of all sin, regeneration and that the gifts/fruit of the Spirit for purpose of edification are still functioning in the body of Christ, the Church.

The Gospel: We believe in the transforming power of the Gospel (Good News) to change people’s lives. We affirm the message of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes (Rm. 1:16). We profess the Gospel is everything. We endeavour to align our lives with the life-saving love and transformational power that comes through a relationship with Jesus and infilling power of His Holy Spirit.

We admit, as imperfect people, we miss the mark and rely on the saving grace and mercy of God through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.

Below are some beliefs based on scripture that we aspire to live by with the help of God’s Holy Spirit.

GOD

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, otherwise known as the Trinity or the Godhead: GOD the Father, GOD the Son, and GOD the Holy Spirit. These three are one GOD, having the same nature and attributes, and are worthy of the same worship, confidence, and obedience.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is at the center of everything. We believe that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. We believe he is the only one who can reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless and exemplary life, took all humankind’s sins on Himself, died on the cross in our place, and rose again to prove His victory and empower us for life. We believe that Jesus Christ is coming back again as He promised.

Holy Spirit

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, whose indwelling enables the Christian to live a Godly life (ie fruit of the Spirit) and be empowered (spiritual gifts) to be witnesses of the love and grace of God.

THE BIBLE

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word: divinely inbreathed, infallible, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God, and applicable to our everyday lives..

THE SEPARATION

We believe that sin has separated each of us from God and His purpose for our lives.

THE RECONCILIATION

We believe that in order to receive forgiveness and a fresh start with God, we must repent of our sins, believe in Jesus, and commit to His will for our lives, by the help of His Holy Spirit.

THE CHURCH

We believe in Christ’s Lordship of the Church, the observance of the ordinances of Christian baptism by immersion for believers, the Lord’s Supper, and the significance of the Church and the necessity of believers to meet regularly together. That we, the Church, in partnership with the Holy Spirit are responsible for the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world

Gifts of the Spirit

We believe in the full range of the Gifts of the Spirit. The gifts of the Spirit are supernatural abilities given by the agency of the Holy Spirit of God to believers for the purpose of ministering effectively and directly in particular situations. They serve the dual function of building up the church and of demonstrating the presence of God within the world.
